Dear Members, dear Friends,
It’s so hot, time goes slow (I am writing the 3rd of September). Today I remained home the whole day because going out was draining. I remained the whole day home and found myself thinking of the people in overcrowded prisons, of the ill in peripheral hospitals with no air-conditioning, of the inhabitants of towns and villages in war zones. How will they survive to this sense of alienation?
I don’t know what you feel, I am personally often living with this sense of alienation in this post truth hyper-modern society, where people support one idea or another one – at the extremes – with the same blind enthusiasm one supports it’s favorite football club, with blind fervor. Where richness wins and is the only aim of many; where the 10 richest man of the Silicon Valley have already invested in the next USA candidate to presidency as long as they will make them even richer.
In these times values don’t seem to have any value. Violation of human rights has a huge dimension.
How difficult it has become to educate our students, to find meaning in life for the kids who come to us and have lost it. I’m here, on this overly hot day, thinking of each of us, of you, gathered usually by EFTA. Let’s help each other, we need each other, we must give each other energy and mutual recognition, strength and hope for the future.
