EFTA CONVERSATION: Older life and substance misuse: Untold stories from the frontline
With Monica Whyte
This conversation commences a dialogue in the family-therapy field on the issue of multigenerational living in older life where substance misuse is present. By and large, the living and lived life experience of substance misuse, addiction and recovery for individuals and families does not match the dominant stories, or alternative life stories of family life. In many ways, our the family therapy field has concentrated its focus on family formation and the early years of family life and not on the issues that develop in maturing families and in families who are impacted by addiction over a long time.
Monica Whyte is a family therapist, trainer and researcher working in public substance misuse services in Dublin Ireland. Monica is a past president of EFTA and past chairperson of Irish national family therapy association (FTAI).
