INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON VIOLENCE AND DIALOGUE

24-25 November 2017
Milan, Italy

Experiences of dialogue on violence: culture, institutions, gender and generations

Centro Congressi FAST – Piazzale Morandi, 2 – Milano

Violence, according to current definitions and in its different forms and places, is the use of strength to impose one’s own will against another one’s. Dialogue is the capacity to listen to and to tolerate premises which are different from ours, in the research of plural solutions. “The ethics of the dialogue is opposed to the ethics of the power. Comprehension versus subjugation. Respect of the other as subject versus degrading the other as object” (Bobbio, N., 1989).
In collaboration with HESTAFTA colleagues, and with the patronage of EFTA CIM, SIRTS (Italian Society of Systemic Research and Therapy – www.sirts.org), starting from these premises, intends to foster a debate among professionals of helping relationships (care), who are involved in dealing with violent relations within the human systems in their daily work, but also, perhaps in a less evident way, in experiencing coercive contexts in the same institutions that should be dedicated to care and assistance. The Congress wants to deepen the topic Violence and Dialogue in all its declensions, and represents a challenge to the potentialities of the systemic approach, that is therapeutically characterized by the research of dialogue, may it be Seikkula’s Open Dialogue or the reactivation of a circularity of viewpoints in a family therapy, or even the restitution of voice and subjectivity to a patient that is subjected to violence or acts violence.
